Good Stuff for Under Ten Bucks

This past Sunday we went to one of our local grocery stores to purchase a fair amount of fruits and to provide us with additional variety. I will talk more about our holistic approach in an upcoming post, to give you a better idea of our let's say mission statement and/or our plan of action and our goals. We purchased a variety of fruits (peaches, two types of apples, pears, grapes, and mangoes) with a few other household items that are unrelated and not very interesting (including eggs for the birthday cakes I promise to make this week, a Sunday newspaper for the coupons, cottage cheese reduced to fifty cents, a smoked mozzarella ball reduced to one dollar, and chap stick). And no, we did not purchase like one apple, one grape, etc. We purchased three pounds of peaches and a little over two pounds of grapes (just to name a few) as well as the other items for all under Ten Buckaroos!
I know you are now wondering, exactly how is this possible because even when you do the math so far $2.96  was spent on peaches and $1.99 (2.03 pounds)  was spent on red grapes that is $4.94 already and before tax!
Coupons my dear, let me say it again COUPONS!!!! Coupons made our little excursion come in under the Ten dollars with tax. As you read future blog posts from me, you will begin to note that I am pretty good, if I do say so myself with locating and using coupons. When looking at the receipt before the coupon, we had alone over ten dollars in fruit (exactly $10.22 before tax). We had a whopping $9 store coupon that really cut our Sunday grocery bill. Hooray for us and our goals of eating and living healthier lives was made more affordable this week. See the insert of our wonderful fruit spread.

On another quick note, I do shop weekly at my local farmers market and made my weekly appearance there on Monday. I purchased some beautiful golden carrots, patty pan squash, and tomatoes. Previously we purchased zucchini, yellow squash,Vidalia onions, and a few other odds and ends to be used this coming week for meal preparation.See the pic below of the beautiful golden carrots.

I will possibly reveal the names of the grocery stores we use at a later time. Right now I am most concerned about seeming biased towards one or another (grocery store) and that is definitely not my intent. What I want people to understand is that you can be a smart shopper and purchase a wealth of wonderful fresh foods, mainly by planning ahead and avoiding the temptation of spontaneous and unnecessary purchases.
